Issue a Czech invoice in English
To issue a Czech invoice in English, include the supplier's and customer's names, addresses and IČO, a unique number, the issue and due dates, and the items with prices. VAT payers add both DIČ numbers, the date of taxable supply and the VAT breakdown. DigiTale Invoice prints these details on a PDF in English or in Czech.

The Czech terms on an invoice
A Czech invoice, or an English one for a Czech business, uses a few Czech terms even when the rest is English. This table gives their plain-English meaning, how they are labelled on an invoice from DigiTale Invoice, and where to read more.
| Czech term | Meaning | Label on the invoice (English / Czech) | More |
|---|---|---|---|
| IČO | Identifikační číslo osoby: the eight-digit company registration number | Reg. No. / IČO | IČO and DIČ |
| DIČ | Daňové identifikační číslo: the tax ID, CZ followed by the IČO for a company | VAT ID / DIČ | IČO and DIČ |
| DUZP | Datum uskutečnění zdanitelného plnění: the date of taxable supply, normally the day the obligation to declare the VAT arises | Tax point / DUZP | DUZP |
| Variabilní symbol | Variable symbol: the number the payer adds to the bank transfer to identify the invoice | Variable symbol / Variabilní symbol | Variable symbol |
| Plátce DPH, neplátce DPH | VAT payer, and a business that isn't a VAT payer. A VAT payer issues tax documents; an invoice without VAT says “Not a VAT payer” | Not a VAT payer / Není plátce DPH | Invoice requirements |
| Daňový doklad | Tax document: the invoice of a VAT payer, with the details listed in § 29 of the VAT Act | Tax invoice / Faktura – daňový doklad | Invoice requirements |
| Dodavatel, odběratel | Supplier and customer | Supplier, Client / Dodavatel, Odběratel | Invoice requirements |
| K úhradě, splatnost | Amount due, and due date | Total due, Due date / Celkem k úhradě, Splatnost | Due dates |
Invoices in English, in Czech and in both
In DigiTale Invoice you pick the invoice language, English or Czech, for each invoice. The labels, the title, the dates and the number format follow that choice. Each invoice is printed in one language; there is no layout with both side by side. To give a client the same invoice in both languages, switch the language and download the PDF again.
The tax authority can ask the person who keeps a tax document to provide a Czech translation of one issued in another language (§ 35(5) VAT Act). Keep that in mind if your accountant or tax office will see an English invoice.
CZK, EUR and other currencies
You can choose any currency for an invoice. Totals and VAT are always shown in that currency. The payment QR code depends on the currency and on what you fill in:
| Invoice | Code | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| CZK, with a Czech account number and bank code or an IBAN | QR Platba (see the QR Platba guide) | The IBAN is calculated for the code from the account number and bank code if you don't type one |
| EUR, with an IBAN typed in and your company name | SEPA QR code, the EPC format (see the SEPA QR code guide) | Support in banking apps is optional for banks, so a client's app may not read it |
| EUR, with only an account number and bank code | A QR Platba string with EUR as its currency | Not a SEPA code. The QR Platba standard allows only CZK, so a bank may reject it. Type your IBAN to get the SEPA code |
| Any other currency | A QR Platba string with that currency | The QR Platba standard allows only CZK, so a bank may reject it. Rely on the bank details printed on the invoice, or turn the QR code off |
What isn't supported yet
DigiTale Invoice also doesn't promise that an invoice is “legally compliant”: it prints the details you enter in the places the requirements guide lists, and doesn't check them against a register or advise on tax.
How to create the invoice
- Choose the invoice language and whether you are a VAT payer.
- Enter your details and your client's. The form asks for a registration number (Reg. No.) for both. For a business in Czechia it must have 8 digits; for a business abroad, enter its own company registration number. Add a VAT ID if there is one.
- Set the currency, the issue date, the due date and, for a VAT payer, the date of taxable supply.
- Add the items. Prices are entered with VAT included, and the invoice prints the price without VAT and the VAT recap.
- Switch on payment details, enter your account number and bank code or your IBAN, and add a variable symbol (see the table above).
- Check the preview and download the PDF.
